Sherry is a fortified wine that is made in the Jerez region of Spain. It is made from palomino grapes, which are fermented and then fortified with brandy to increase the alcohol content. Sherry is then aged in oak casks for several years.
Sherry casks are prized by whisky makers because they impart a rich, complex flavor to the whisky. The sherry flavors that can be found in whisky include dried fruits, nuts, caramel, and chocolate. Sherry casks can also add a certain smoothness and depth to the whisky.
This Sherry Edition features 9 delicious whiskies that have been matured in sherry casks. These whiskies offer a wide range of flavors, from the light and fruity Arran Bodega Sherry Cask to the rich and complex Glengoyne 21 Year Old.
Glengoyne 21 Years Old
Apart from winning Gold at the IWSC 2022 and Luxury Masters 2020, the Glengoyne 21 also won the Best Green Packaging Design in 2020. It is matured predominantly in first fill European oak sherry casks.
Tamdhu Year of the Tiger
Made specially to celebrate the Year of the Tiger, Tamdhu released a cask strength whisky that embodies the spirit of the tiger. It is aged exclusively in sherry oak casks.
Aberlour A'Bunadh Batch 65
A'Bunadh means 'the original' in Gaelic and is made in homage to Aberlour's founder, James Fleming. Each batch is hand made from start to finish and aged exclusively in Spanish Oloroso Sherry butts.
GlenDronach 15 Years Old Revival
Despite its popularity, GlenDronach stopped their 15 year expression due to lack of maturing stocks. It was brought back in 2018, hence the name 'Revival'. It is aged in a mix of Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks
GlenAllachie 10 Years Old Cask Strength Batch 7
Following the footsteps of Batch 4's success as 'World's Best Single Malt' in 2021, GlenAllachie ages this malt in predominantly Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry puncheons and a small amount of virgin oak and Rioja casks.
Macallan 12 Years Old Sherry Oak
The 12 Year Old Sherry Oak is released as part of the Macallan's Sherry Oak range and is fully matured sherry-seasoned oak casks from Jerez, Spain.
Arran Bodega Sherry Cask
Despite not having a stated age, Arran states that it has matured this malt for 7 years in first-fill Oloroso Sherry hogsheads. American oak is chosen over European oak to better match Arran's style.
Balvenie 12 Years Old DoubleWood
Balvenie uses barley grown locally on their barley farm. Their DoubleWood whisky is first aged in refill American oak ex-bourbon casks before finishing in Spanish oak ex-Oloroso sherry casks for an additional 9 months.
Bowmore 15 Years Old
Bowmore matures this whisky first in ex-bourbon barrels before finishing the last 3 years in first fill Oloroso sherry casks and was formerly known as the Bowmore Darkest 15 Year.
